Catalpa Oaks Project Details

Catalpa Oaks County Park is a 24-acre green space located in the City of Southfield. The project to improve the parking lot and add an accessible plaza with shaded gathering and seating areas was funded by the OCP Healthy Communities Park and Outdoor Investment Plan. This includes $750,000 in ARPA funding and $1,490,000 from the OCP Capital Improvement Program. 

Catalpa Oaks is partially open following construction that has transformed the park with expanded recreation opportunities, improved accessibility and new green infrastructure. Improvements include:

• An expanded universally accessible playground
• Improved accessible pathways
• Shaded gathering and seating areas
• An accessible plaza
• A second picnic pavilion
• New outdoor fitness equipment
• Paved parking lot
• Upgrades to recreation fields and green stormwater infrastructure

While portions of Catalpa Oaks are reopening, work continues on the recreation fields. The fields will remain closed while the new turf becomes established and are expected to open in spring 2027. A formal ribbon-cutting celebration is also planned for spring 2027.
