Community and Public Spaces (CAPS)

About

The Oakland County Community and Public Spaces (CAPS) Study Group was established on October 22, 2025, through a communication notice to the Board’s Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee. The CAPS Study Group’s purpose is to review and evaluate grant application submissions for public placemaking projects to ensure alignment with the county’s missions and priorities.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) administers Public Spaces Community Places (PSCP), a creative placemaking and funding initiative designed to empower communities to revitalize and activate public spaces. The Board appropriated $200,000 during the FY 2026 budget process to be used as matching grant funds, of up to $10,000 per project, for eligible public placemaking projects in Oakland County’s cities, villages and townships (CVTs).

To raise funding for the activation of the Civic Center Campus Artwalk by providing mobility, accessibility, and barrier-free elements.
