34 Senior Law Clerk Michigan Supreme Court The hardships created by COVID and the chaos surrounding the 2020 election cycle prompted David Sheaffer to transition from a budding appellate and commercial litigation practice back to his passion for public service. He returned to the Michigan Supreme Court to serve as the senior law clerk for Justice Elizabeth Welch where he handles day-to-day management of the justiceÕs staff and provides essential legal research and assistance in drafting opinions. Earlier in his career, he had been a judicial clerk for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein before he went into private practice as an associate at Williams, Williams, Rattner and Plunkett, P.C. And even earlier in his career, he was a wildlife firefighter in Idaho. Sheaffer serves as an adjunct professor and as a volunteer coach for the moot court competition program at Michigan State University and a volunteer member of SouthfieldÕs Wildlife Advisory Commission. He received a bachelorÕs degree from Washington State University and a law degree from Michigan State University. He lives in Southfield with his wife and daughter.
