31 PhD, Cancer Biology Wayne State University Triple-negative breast cancer is the most aggressive form of breast cancer in the U.S., which not only disproportionally affects African American women, Hispanic women and Latinas but also has a prognosis of less than 14 months. Julio Pimentel is dedicated to researching TNBC. Even during the height of COVID-19, Pimentel continued going into the laboratory to further his research. And for his devotion, Pimentel received numerous honors and recognitions. Pimentel is proud to be a first-generation college graduate and a son to Mexican immigrants, and he is dedicated to helping youth with similar backgrounds overcome obstacles to education. By teaming up with Detroit FocuSSTEM Next Generation Program, Pimentel gives presentations to high school students in underserved districts. He earned a bachelorÕs degree in biological sciences from California State University Stanislaus, a masterÕs degree in clinical education and translational medicine from University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and a PhD in cancer biology at Wayne State University: School of Medicine.
