PONTIAC, Mich. – Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Ruben Aleman Contreras, a 23-year-old resident of Detroit, with six felonies, including Assault with Intent to Murder, for a shooting at Jaycee Park in Pontiac.
On August 23, the defendant allegedly pointed a handgun at another man’s head during a dispute. When a third man attempted to intervene, a physical altercation ensued, and witnesses reported hearing three to six shots. The defendant reportedly fled the scene, and the victim was seen bleeding from a gunshot wound. The victim remains hospitalized.
“People have a right to enjoy a Sunday afternoon at the park without fear of gun violence,” said Prosecutor McDonald. “One man is in the hospital, and everyone who was at Jaycee Park has been affected by this incident because this defendant chose to resolve a dispute with a gun.”
The defendant is charged with the following crimes:
Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
