PONTIAC, Mich. — Oakland County Treasurer Robert Wittenberg has been sworn into office and begins his term today. As required by Michigan Law, the term of office for County Treasurers is July 1 to June 30 for any county with a population of a million people or more.

Robert Wittenberg also will be ceremonially sworn-in by his brother, 44th District Judge Jamie Wittenberg during a community event at Pebble Creek Park Pavilion—located at 26300 American Drive, Southfield, Mich.—beginning at 6 p.m. Treasurer Wittenberg also reappointed Chief Deputy Treasurer Jody DeFoe, Deputy Treasurer Gavin Ross and Investment Manager Natalie Neph along with eight other deputy treasurers.

“I am honored to continue my service to Oakland County residents and business owners,” said Robert Wittenberg, Oakland County Treasurer. “As Oakland County Treasurer, the protection of the financial security of all our residents, helping our economy thrive, safeguarding taxpayer dollars and preventing property foreclosures are my highest priorities.”

Former Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner—who served in the office for 12 years— facilitated a smooth and thoughtful six-month transition by hiring Wittenberg part-time in Jan. 2021. Following more than 20 years of public service, Meisner will devote time to his family before pursuing private sector opportunities.

During the transition period, Wittenberg began outreach meetings with other Oakland County officials, community treasurers, officials, stakeholders and partners throughout the county. His outreach meetings will continue throughout his tenure.

“I believe we must be fiscally responsible, socially conscious and a compassionate steward of our resources to enable residents and business owners across Oakland County to succeed while improving our property values, retaining our AAA bond rating, and strengthening our neighborhoods and economy,” Wittenberg continued.

Before assuming office as Treasurer on July 1, Robert served three terms as state representative for seven Oakland County communities that comprise Michigan’s 27th House District. At the State Capitol, he was the Vice-Chair on the House Financial Liability Reform Committee and a member of the House Tax Policy Committee and House Financial Services Committee. Robert was always up to the challenge in Lansing, taking on big issues such as pushing for tax fairness in Michigan and creating a new state retirement savings program.

Before a career in public service, Robert worked as a licensed life and health insurance agent, helping thousands of businesses and individuals navigate their health and life insurance and employee benefits.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Indiana University, Kelley School of Business. He and his wife, Kimberly, live in Huntington Woods with their two energetic young children.
