Pontiac, MI – Sunday, December 4, 2022, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald charged Hassan Yehia Chokr with two counts of Ethnic Intimidation. The charges stem from antisemitic and racist threats made to parents, young children and security personnel at a preschool and Synagogue in Bloomfield Township on Friday morning. Chokr is a 35 year-old resident of Dearborn. Chokr was taken into custody by the Dearborn Police Department, and he remains in custody pending arraignment on the Ethnic Intimidation charges.

“Anti-semitic and racist threats or ethnic intimidation of any kind, will not be tolerated in our community, and every such incident will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald. “Our office created Oakland County’s first Hate Crimes Unit a little over a year ago to give us the resources needed to call out, investigate and prosecute these serious crimes.”

The Prosecutor’s office would like to acknowledge the efforts of the Bloomfield Township Police Department in coordination with the Dearborn Police Department, which ensured that this defendant will remain in custody until he is arraigned. A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
