Pontiac, Mich. ­– Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter released the following statement about the tragic passing of Oakland County Health Officer Dr. Calandra Green:

“Our hearts are shattered at the news of the passing of our colleague and esteemed Health Officer Dr. Calandra Green. Words cannot express how devastating this news is to our Oakland County family. Calandra was a beloved member of our team and a light to all who had the privilege to know and love her.

“We are closing the North Oakland County Health Clinics and the South Oakland County Health Clinic to the public on Friday, May 12 to allow our employees time to grieve and seek support from each other and counselors as they process this devastating news.”

About Dr. Calandra Green

County Executive Dave Coulter appointed Dr. Calandra Green as the first woman of color to serve as Oakland County’s health officer in April 2022. She joined Oakland County as a public health nurse in August 2019. As the pandemic began in March 2020, she became the Oakland County Health Division’s quality and process improvement supervisor. Her duties included serving as the COVID-19 school nurse liaison where she hired, trained, and deployed 68 nurses to 28 public school districts and 125 private or charter schools. In May of 2021, she rose to administrator public health, developing and managing comprehensive countywide programs within public heath including organizing and developing mental health response both in Oxford and countywide in the aftermath of the Oxford High School shooting.

In the private sector, Green, then known as Calandra Anderson, worked for McLaren Health Care in Pontiac from 2007-2018 where she rose from manager of patient care services to vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer. From 1993-2007, she worked for North Oakland Medical Centers in Pontiac, serving as manager of obstetrics and the neonatal intensive care unit from 2004-2007.

Green held four degrees and a certificate: a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Oakland University; a Post-Masters Certificate in Lean Leadership from Oakland University; a Master of Business Administration from Baker College; a Bachelor of Health Services Administration from Baker College; and an Associate of Nursing from Oakland Community College In 2021, Oakland University recognized Green with the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Community Nursing.
