PONTIAC, Mich. - On June 15, 2023, a jury of 12 citizens returned a guilty verdict in the case against Megan Joyce Imirowicz for throwing lye on her 64-year-old father Konrad Imirowicz, ultimately resulting in his death. Throughout the four-day trial before Judge Victoria Valentine the jury heard testimony from nine witnesses and reviewed 18 exhibits before convicting the defendant on charges of Unlawful Possession or Use of Harmful Devices/Irritants Causing Death and Domestic Violence.

The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on October 1, 2021, when the then 18-year-old defendant threw lye, a chemical drain cleaner, on her sleeping father. The victim was hospitalized for chemical burns across his body. He survived for five months following the attack, but ultimately died on March 6, 2022, three days after he was removed from life support, from chemical burns and complications sustained when a chemical was thrown on him.

"This is a tragic case. The defendant lashed out in anger and wound up killing her father," stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald. "I commend the prosecution team for the tremendous work that went into the prosecution and securing justice for the victim in this case."

Assistant Prosecutor Jason DeSantis conducted the trial team for the Prosecutor's Office.

Following the guilty verdict, the prosecution moved to revoke bond, which the court granted. Imirowicz will remain at the Oakland County Jail. Sentencing is set for July 25, 2023 at 8:30 am before Judge Valentine.

Unlawful Possession or Use of Harmful Devices/Irritants Causing Death is a felony punishable by life imprisonment or any term of years and/or a fine up to $40,000. Domestic Violence is a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days jail and/or a fine up to $500.
