PONTIAC, Mich. - Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Douglas Alan Fleury, a 44-year-old resident of Madison Heights, with one count of Flying Beam of Light or Energy Aimed at Plane or Train.

Charges stem from an incident that occurred the evening of May 16, 2023, in Madison Heights, where the defendant allegedly pointed a laser at a Michigan State Police helicopter.

"Pointing a laser at any moving vehicle is extremely dangerous," stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. "Criminal charges are necessary when someone recklessly endangers the lives of others."

Flying Beam of Light or Energy Aimed at Plane or Train is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 5 years and/or a fine up to $10,000.

Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
