PONTIAC, Mich. - Tubtim "Sue" Howson was sentenced to one to five years in prison arising from the death of 22-year-old Benjamin Kable on January 1, 2023 when Howson struck him with her car and then left the scene.

While driving in Oakland Township in the early morning hours of January 1, Howson hit the victim with her car while traveling at a high rate of speed. Howson failed to report the crash and fled the scene. Two days after the fatal crash, Howson fled to Thailand. A tip led investigators to identify Howson as the driver.

On February 1, 2023, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald charged Howson with one count Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. Howson returned to the United States in late February and was immediately taken into custody by the FBI. In June 2023, Howson pled guilty as charged. Today, Judge Michael Warren sentenced Howson to one to five years in MDOC.

“Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare. Today’s sentence is an important step in holding the individual responsible for this unimaginable act,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD. “While today’s sentence will not fill the void left behind, I hope that it brings the family, friends, and loved ones of Ben Kable some level of solace.”
