MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. - Today, Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Raiyan Chowdhury, a 32-year-old resident of Warren, in connection with a fatal hit and run in Madison Heights. The defendant is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death and Tampering with Evidence.

Shortly before 10:00 pm on the night of September 13, 2023, it is alleged the defendant was traveling southbound on Dequindre Road when he struck the victim, dragging him for a brief period. The defendant fled the scene and was later located and taken into custody by Madison Heights Police with assistance from Warren PD.

“The law is very clear – it doesn’t matter who is at fault in a crash, if you are involved, you are required to report it right away. Running someone over and then driving away is a felony, and we will hold this defendant accountable” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald.

The defendant was arraigned on September 16, 2023, in the 43rd District Court. Bail was set at $10,000, 10%. Defendant posted bond.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death is a felony punishable by up to five years imprisonment and/or up to a $5,000 fine. Tampering with Evidence is a felony punishable by four years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $5,000.

Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
