SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - On Friday, September 15th, 2023, Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Kentia Monique Fearn, a 23-year-old resident of Wayne, in relation to the death of 23-year-old Mia Kanu. The defendant is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death and Operating While Intoxicated.

In the early morning hours of June 3rd, 2023, police responded to a call at Providence Drive in Southfield and discovered the victim’s body in the roadway. It is alleged that the defendant was driving the car, and that the victim jumped from the moving car, resulting in her death. The defendant did not stop their car and left the area.

"The law requires anyone involved in an accident to stop and immediately report the accident to authorities. Leaving the scene when someone is seriously injured or dies is a felony. My office will hold those who do so accountable,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.

The defendant was taken into custody the evening of September 19th and will be arraigned this afternoon, September 20th, at 1:30pm in the 46th District Court.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death is a felony punishable by up to five years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $5,000. Operating While Intoxicated is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days imprisonment and/or up to a $500 fine.

Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
