PONTIAC, Mich. - On November 13, 2023, defendant Troy Dwayne Santos pleaded guilty to charges brought by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, including Second Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, two counts of Felony Firearm, in addition to pleading to the habitual second offense notice.

In entering his plea before the Court, Troy Dwayne Santos, now 31 years old, admitted that he is the individual responsible for the shooting that resulted in the death of the 39-year-old victim on October 31, 2021. The shooting took place at a popular grocery store in Pontiac. Evidence shows that the victim arrived at the store prior to the defendant. Upon exiting the store, the victim encountered Santos, who was approaching the store. As the victim looked back toward Santos, the defendant began shooting. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital, where they died a short time later.

“Those who engage in violent crime will be held accountable,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “Today’s plea guarantees the safety of our community, and I hope it provides the victim’s family and friends some comfort.”

Santos faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or any term of years. Santos will remain in the Oakland County Jail until sentencing, which is set for January 9, 2024, at 9:00 am before Judge Cunningham.
