PONTIAC, Mich. - On Friday, January 12, 2024, Defendant Aurelius Juan Williams pled no contest to charges brought by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, including Assault with Intent to Murder and Involuntary Manslaughter.

Williams was charged along with co-defendant Christian Armari Johnson in connection with a fatal shooting that took place on June 6, 2021, at the Baymont Inn in Royal Oak Township. Charges against Johnson, the alleged shooter, remain pending and set for trial in February 2024. Those charges include Open Murder and Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. During his plea, the now 21-year-old Williams took responsibility for his part in the shooting, which resulted in the death of a 24-year-old victim and injured a 23-year-old.

“Today’s plea is an important step towards justice for the victims, and helps ensure that the alleged shooter will be held fully accountable for his actions,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD.

Assault with Intent to Murder is a felony punishable by life imprisonment or any term of years. Involuntary Manslaughter is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and/or up to a $7,500 fine. Open Murder is a felony offense punishable by life imprisonment. Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of carries a sentence of 2 years mandatory imprisonment.
