PONTIAC, Mich. - On Monday, September 16, 2024, Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Dejaun Patrick Evans, a 32-year-old resident of Farmington Hills, with 13 criminal charges. These current charges include three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Firearm Possession by a Prohibited Person, two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, six counts of Felony Firearm Second or Subsequent Offense, and one count of Domestic Violence.

These charges are in connection with an incident that took place on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Farmington Hills. At approximately 11:54 am, officers responded to a report of a domestic violence assault in progress in the area of Middlebelt and 12 Mile. It is alleged that the defendant assaulted the victim and threatened her life in front of her children. The victim’s child alerted 911 and law enforcement responded. When officers arrived, the victim told them that she had been assaulted and that her children were still inside. Officers attempted to enter the home and apprehend the defendant. The defendant pointed a rifle at the officers and later shot multiple times at the officers. Law enforcement moved to contain the defendant, and he barricaded himself in the home with the two young children. The children ultimately escaped after some time before the defendant appeared at the front door with a rifle and was subsequently shot one time by an OCSO SWAT sniper. Law enforcement immediately rendered medical aid. The defendant is currently in custody, under guard, at a medical facility.

"Law enforcement rushed into imminent danger, putting their own lives on the line, to save the lives of the victim and her children," stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. "I commend the quick thinking of law enforcement in bringing this extremely dangerous situation to an end. My office's top priority is public safety, and we will prosecute individuals who threaten the safety of our community and the lives of others, including children and law enforcement officers, to the fullest extent of the law."

Assault with Intent to Murder is a felony punishable by life imprisonment or any number of years and requires DNA to be taken upon arrest. Firearm Possession by Prohibited Person is a felony punishable by up to five years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $5,000 and requires mandatory forfeiture of the weapon/device. Assault with a Dangerous Weapon is a felony punishable by up to four years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $2,000 and requires DNA to be taken upon request. Felony Firearm Second Offense carries a sentence of five years mandatory imprisonment.  Domestic Violence is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days in jail and/or a fine up to $500.

Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
