PONTIAC, Mich. - On October 2, 2024, Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Kenneth Michael Oliver, a 38-year-old resident of Lincoln Park, with Malicious use of a Telecommunications Device.

The victim in this case is an inspector for the Oakland County Road Commission. On August 9, 2024, the victim was in a red security truck monitoring a construction site when she allegedly observed the defendant drive on a closed shoulder in the construction area, drive over construction cones, and then cut off another car while entering back onto the roadway. The victim turned on her truck lights and honked her horn to warn the construction workers at the site. It is alleged that the defendant then got out of his car, yelled at the victim, and pounded on her truck. The defendant was issued a citation for careless driving.

On August 21, 2024, a threatening message was sent to the Oakland County Road Commission social media account. In the message it is alleged that the defendant told the victim that he was going to find out where she lived and that he was going to “beat her ass to death.” Among other threats, the defendant threatened to shoot the victim and her family and ended his message by saying “I got weapons.”

“This was a public servant doing her job,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “She should not be subjected to such violent threats, nor should anyone else. I commend the Oakland County Road Commission staff who immediately reported this incident to law enforcement.”

Malicious use of a Telecommunications Device is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a fine up to $1,000.

Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
