PONTIAC, Mich. - On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, an Oakland County jury convicted Vincent Floyd Vuichard of First-Degree Murder charges brought by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.

Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Vuichard with Murder on May 19, 2021, for killing his wife. The murder occurred on or just before May 17, 2021, in Commerce Township at the home of the defendant and his wife. When the victim failed to show up to work that morning, her colleagues contacted law enforcement, and detectives went to the residence to conduct a welfare check. After some time, the defendant opened the door for the detectives. Upon entering the home, detectives found a comforter covering something on the bathroom floor. When they asked the defendant what it was, he replied and said it was his wife. The victim was already deceased, and she died from multiple slash and stab wounds.  

During the six-day trial, the defendant asserted an insanity defense. Twelve jurors deliberated for less than one day before rejecting that defense and unanimously finding the defendant guilty as charged. The Prosecution team was led by Assistant Prosecutor Rob Novy assisted by Assistant Prosecutor Andrea Ajlouni. 

“Tanya Vuichard was a mother, grandmother, friend, and coworker – her senseless murder is a huge loss to the community,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “My office spent the last three years working alongside her children to get justice for Tanya, and I applaud the trial team for securing a first-degree murder conviction in this very difficult case.”   

Vuichard will remain at the Oakland County Jail until sentencing, which is scheduled for February 6, 2025, at 1:30 before Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Jacob Cunningham. 

First-Degree Murder carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.
