PONTIAC, Mich. -  The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing evidence collected by investigators in the case of the three abandoned children discovered in Pontiac over the weekend.

The Prosecutor’s Office received the case from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office overnight, which includes several gigabytes of evidence. The Prosecutor’s Office also requested expedited CARE House interviews with the three children, which were conducted on Monday.

“The conditions these children were living in were unspeakably horrific,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, in response to the allegations in the police report.

“Right now, this case is a top priority. Our team is urgently working to process the evidence and make charging decisions. While it is important to move quickly, we must also be thorough to fully understand what happened in that house and ensure justice is done for these three children.”

Following the children’s removal from the home, the children have been placed with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for care and planning, and the Court has ordered that the parents not have any contact with the children.  The children are currently in the care of relatives.

“The focus from the beginning has been to ensure the children’s health and safety,” said McDonald. “Their parents are not allowed to contact them. The children are getting the help they need while we are assessing the case.”
