PONTIAC, Mich. - Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Derek Butler, an 18-year-old, and a 17-year-old juvenile with Carjacking and Carrying a Concealed Weapon for the carjacking of a Door Dash driver in Southfield.

The two defendants allegedly stole the victim's vehicle, a 2023 Dodge Charger, while the victim was making a delivery. One of the defendants is said to have threatened the victim with a firearm. Following a pursuit that exceeded 100 mph, Southfield Police apprehended the defendants and recovered the vehicle, where they found a firearm in the center console.

"Carjackings are more than just a property crime, they traumatize victims and endanger our communities," said Prosecutor McDonald. "The victim was simply doing his job. Violent crime will never be tolerated, and we will hold these defendants accountable."

Carjacking is punishable by a term of any years in prison. Carrying a Concealed Weapon is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
