Give archery a shot! A traditional archery course with paper targets is housed at Independence Oaks County Park and a 3D archery course with 3D animal targets is available at Springfield Oaks County Park. Archery is a great way to build strength and improve concentration. It boosts hand-eye coordination, enhances upper body strength and increases confidence.

Independence Oaks

There is no charge to use the facility or equipment on site during Open Archery Range hours from 4-7 p.m. on Thursdays. For more information, call 248-858-0916.

Monster Mayhem

Shoot at themed targets, test your accuracy at mini challenges and enjoy a lighthearted, Halloween-inspired atmosphere during Monster Mayhem at the archery range in Independence Oaks County Park from 1-1:45 p.m. or 2-2:45 p.m. Sept. 19.

This program includes general archery instruction with 3D monster targets. Perfect for beginners and experienced archers alike, this fun event brings out your inner monster hunter. Come ready for mayhem!

This program is open to participants ages 8 and older. Parent/caregiver participants are encouraged. Sessions will be held weather permitting.

Archery Birthday Parties

Archery range birthday parties offer a fun, outdoor celebration option for ages 8 and older. Package includes range time, themed craft and celebration time after the range (total time 2.5 hours). Tent and picnic tables are provided; guests must provide their own birthday party supplies. Targets will be decorated based on one of the following themes:

• Zombie
• Art
• Superheroes

There is a maximum of 10 archers per party. Cost is $20/participant. Range will be closed in the event of rain, thunder or lightning for guest safety.

Springfield Oaks

The 3D Archery Course at Springfield Oaks County Park provides a dynamic outdoor experience for archers of all skill levels. Life-sized 3D animal targets simulate real-world hunting scenarios while emphasizing safety, education and outdoor recreation.

The new course, located at 12449 Andersonville Road, is open to the public on the following schedule through Sunday, Oct. 25:

• 4-7 p.m. Fridays
• 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays
• 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays

Cost is $10 for adults and juniors ages 8-17. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Gift cards can be purchased and redeemed on site. Spectators and children under age 8 are not allowed on the course. Archers must bring their own equipment. The course is suitable for compound, recurve, and traditional bows. No crossbows are allowed.

3D Archery Course Details

• There are 14 stations with 20 targets spaced to replicate varied terrain and natural obstacles
• Targets are Rinehart Competition 3D animal targets (deer, bear, turkey, etc.)
• Shooting Lanes are clearly marked with backstops where needed
• Distance range varies by target (20. 30, 35, or 40 yards)

Upcoming Event

4-H Archery

Discover the fun and focus of archery from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Springfield Oaks 3D Archery Range and Springfield Oaks Event Center. These hands-on events are open to youth ages 12 and older, covering archery safety, proper form and target practice in a supportive environment. All experience levels are welcome.

• Nov. 5: Indoor at the event center
• Nov. 19: Indoor at the event center
• Dec. 3: Indoor at the event center

• Feb. 4: Indoor at the event center
• Feb. 18: Indoor at the event center

Cost is $5/session. All archery equipment is provided or participants may bring their own equipment. Closed-toe shoes are required.

Adults are welcome to stay and observe. If enrollment is low for a session, adults may also participate.
