The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has written directives (commonly referred to as polices and procedures or general orders) that govern the conduct of Deputies and/or provide guidance to Deputies in course of their official duties. The Sheriff’s Office has long since maintained compliance with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) standards in regards to all corrections related directives. In 2026, the Sheriff’s Office voluntarily became accredited by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP) Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC).
Additional Orders and other policy documents to be added to this page shortly. Please check back again soon for updates.

Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of helping law enforcement agencies calculate and improve their overall performance. The foundation of Accreditation lies in the adoption of standards containing a clear statement of professional objectives, while ensuring transparency and accountability. Participating agencies conduct a thorough self-analysis to determine how existing operations can be adapted to meet these objectives. When the procedures are in place, a team of trained assessors verifies that applicable standards have been successfully implemented.
Accreditation status represents a significant professional achievement. Accreditation acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and operationally effective, while reflecting community values and guarding quality of life.
Compliance with accreditation standards is ultimately reflected in the attitudes, training, and actions of personnel within accredited agencies. While accreditation and written policies cannot guarantee a crime-free community or prevent litigation, the consistent application and reinforcement of department directives strengthen community trust.
Effective leadership and professional policy development are reinforced through a comprehensive, attainable accreditation program grounded in standards that promote quality service delivery.
